The brief

When Powered by People asked us to create Bloomingdale's-ready imagery for two remarkable artisan brands — Soli & Sun from the Philippines and Indego Africa from Rwanda — the brief was bigger than photography: open the doors of one of America's most prestigious retailers to artisan creators who deserve access to global markets.

The challenge was clear. Transform 35+ handcrafted products into 130+ retail-grade images that meet Bloomingdale's exacting standards — within a two-week timeline, at a price point that makes economic sense for social enterprises.

From artisan craft to retail ready.

Authentic, but not yet retail.

Soli & Sun and Indego Africa represent the best of artisan craftsmanship — handwoven bags, thoughtfully designed accessories, products rich with cultural heritage. But their existing imagery, while authentic, wasn't built for major U.S. retailers. The gaps were specific:

  • Inconsistent image quality and resolution
  • Missing essential angles — overhead, detail, interior
  • Improper cropping for retail specifications
  • Backgrounds outside Bloomingdale's standards
  • No swatch images for materials and colours
  • No lifestyle imagery with models

The stakes were high: without retail-ready imagery, these brands — no matter how exceptional their products — stay locked out of premium retail. Bloomingdale's doesn't compromise on image standards. Neither could we.

Artisan craftsmanship, elevated to Bloomingdale's standards — retail-ready photography, authentic heritage, scalable excellence.

  • 130+ Retail-grade images created across 35+ artisan products, to Bloomingdale's exacting standards.
  • 14 days Complete delivery, including multiple revision rounds and format optimization.
  • 100% Specification compliance, while preserving authentic artisan craftsmanship.

Beauty, inside a rigid frame.

Consistency across 35+ products

With 35+ products requiring comprehensive photography, we developed a systematic approach balancing Bloomingdale’s strict creative guidelines with a two-week delivery. Every product received the same complete set: primary packshot, overhead and detail angles, craftsmanship close-ups, lifestyle shots with models, and material swatches for accurate variants — the same exacting standard from handwoven bags to bag charms.

Meeting exacting standards

Working within Bloomingdale’s creative constraints meant zero room for artistic interpretation — exact specifications for lighting, cropping, background and colour accuracy. Not guidelines; requirements. The challenge wasn’t just creating beautiful images. It was creating beautiful images inside a rigid framework built for visual coherence across an entire retail platform.

Handwoven texture, without compromise

The hardest technical problem: truthfully capturing handwoven materials — Filipino raffia, natural fibres, African basketry — without full physical access to every angle. Our AI-enhanced workflow, guided by expert direction and deep material understanding, built the missing angles and lifestyle scenarios while preserving the tactile quality that defines both brands. Never artifice — truthful representation of handmade excellence.
